Frequently Asked Questions
RECYCLING TECHNOLOGY DEPLOYMENT CABLING
Q: Is 2trg a certified recycler?
A: Yes. 2trg Cincinnati and 2trg Geneva are e-Stewards certified, R2 certified, ISO 14001:2004 certified, and OHSAS 18001:2007 certified. 2trg Louisville is an e-Stewards recycler. 2trg Louisville is working toward attaining e-Stewards, R2, ISO 14001:2004, and OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications in 2012.
Q: Does 2trg have a Zero Landfill and/or Zero Export of hazardous waste policies?
A: Yes, we have both! The U.S. EPA and state and federal governments are more closely tracking the disposal practices of companies. Donation or employee purchase options are becoming less attractive alternatives because the liability for environmental hazards may fall back on the company with penalties applied against all involved parties. With our Zero Landfill Policy, materials and products entrusted to 2trg for recycling are either refurbished, harvested for reuse or resell, or turned into usable raw materials to make other products. 2trg’s Zero Export Policy helps protect your organization by ensuring that your technology waste is not illegally exported as unprocessed equipment with hazardous and toxic materials. We are vigilant in our efforts to ensure that our partner companies are operating under a Zero Export Policy, too.
Q: What electronic waste materials does 2trg accept for recycling?
A: 2trg's Cincinnati and Louisville processing centers accept these electronic items for recycling. 2trg's Geneva processing center accepts all items covered by New York State's Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act along with these electronic items. Acceptable items at events vary. Please check our events page to find the acceptable items list for the specific event you are interested in.
Q: What types of products are made from the electronics 2trg recycles?
A: 80% of materials and equipment entrusted to 2trg for recycling are separated into commodities and turned into usable raw materials to make new products. Clean CRT glass is used to make countertops or is used as an additive for asphalt in roads. ABS plastic is used by injection molders to make automotive parts like wheel covers and grills. Copper from communications cables and CRT monitors is used to make copper wiring.
Local Cincinnati artist Sam Glantz uses communication cables to create scorpions, cockroaches, and spiders.
